DAVID WERTHEIM AYMES

I am a Waldorf child born in South Africa in 1961. I studied accounting and am now a CA(SA). I wanted to test the world and understand it. I ended up in my own back yard business at the age of 34. We produced and sold 4,000m2 of paving in a month with 22 people. Now we produce and sell 200,000m2 per month Nationally with 450 people and are the leaders in our industry. I never had capital or family money. I built it with all with borrowed money and the weaving of people's soul and spirit into their daily participation and care of our borrowings. I did not know all of this while it was happening but, from self-objectification and observation, I was able to distil out what was really happening. I will share some of this distilled learning with you. I owe this to a large extent to Anthroposophy, but mostly to the Godliness in me and others.

Ethical Business Workshop:

First session: Building a business in the image of Fourfold Man and how the echo of this results in the forming and stabilising of the human souls involved.

In this session, we will understand the fourfold nature of the world and humanity and apply it to what we know as our businesses. We will discover that holding this concept alive in us works as a guide to our will which then generates all sorts of efficiencies in our business that we don't need a textbook for. We will see that modern business writers know this but don't understand where it comes from.

Second session: Humanity is to Nature as Light is to darkness. Business is a function of humanity within the bounds nature but adds something new which is dependent on the human qualities involved.

In this session, we will briefly work through the Plato world view as a basis for discovering Monism and the Lens concept. We will apply the concepts to daily life in business in how we select and organise people to bring about more light in the darkness. We will connect this to Dr Steiner's lecture of where the creation of value comes from. We should leave this session with a deep commitment, from practical experience in the time we spend together, that our humanity is what makes our businesses. Effective businesses are alive with the light of humanity. The darkness grasps hold of businesses where unconsciousness is allowed.

Both sessions will be full of practical examples from experience.
